The CEN exam contains 18 questions related to respiratory emergencies. Emergency nurses care for patients with respiratory illnesses regularly in the workplace. This session covers topics related to respiratory emergencies including a brief overview of arterial blood gas interpretation, rapid sequence intubation, respiratory illnesses and trauma to the respiratory system. Participants are given an overview of assessing, caring for and evaluating care for patients with respiratory emergencies.
Objectives:
- Interpret basic blood gas abnormalities
- Describe the difference between the causes of various forms of obstructive pulmonary diseases
- List advantages and disadvantages to utilizing auto transfusion in patients with chest trauma
