This presentation focuses on crew resource management and risks presented to the nurse and crew while transporting a patient. We look at how to mitigate and prepare for such risks as temperature swings, barometric pressure changes, vibration and the possibility of sheltering in place for a small amount of time. The topic of when to decide not to transfer a patient based upon safety concerns is covered and explained.

  • Describe the basic tenants of crew resource management
  • Identify ways to mitigate the risk of temperature changes to the caregiver and patient
  • Present safety concerns of a transport to the ED physician and make a decision to transport immediately or postpone the transport
