Presented By: Larry Veltman, M.D.
August 2012
Vaginal birth after cesarean deliveries (VBAC) and trial of labor after cesareans (TOLAC) continue to be patient safety challenges for perinatal teams. In 2010, two important events occurred that gave rise to anticipation that these challenges could be overcome; one was the NIH Consensus Conference on Vaginal Birth After Cesarean and the other was a new Practice Bulletin from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The risks of TOLAC, the unpredictability of uterine rupture in a given patient, the definition of immediately available and the liability associated with an adverse outcome are still at the forefront of everyday discussions. This webinar with Dr. Larry Veltman addressess all of these issues and recommends strategies that may be undertaken to safely approach VBACs given the different clinical situations in institutions of various sizes and limited resources.
Objectives:
- Evolution of guidelines, has anything changed since 2010?
- Strategies to safely approach VBACs
- Common dillemas
