Medical Chaperone Toolkit

BETA Healthcare Group (BETA) is committed to supporting healthcare practices and organizations in protecting patients and clinicians. We created a Medical Chaperone Toolkit to provide individuals who chaperone sensitive medical examinations and procedures with the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure patient comfort, maintain professional boundaries and reduce the risk of sexual misconduct allegations.

Chaperones

Healthcare organizations are advised to use trained chaperones for sensitive medical examinations and procedures and to have a reliable process for reporting and responding to concerns raised by staff and patients. Learning about the role and purpose of a chaperone, what to do and say as a chaperone and how to conduct sensitive examinations in an appropriate and standardized way is critical to preventing and managing sexual misconduct risks.

Toolkit Contents

  • Video-Based Learning Materials
  • Sample Chaperone Policy
  • Model Competency Assessment Tool

Training

Trained chaperones demonstrate a commitment to patients’ safety and comfort, reduce the risk of sexual misconduct allegations through proactive training and standardized practices and improve staff confidence and competence in chaperone roles, leading to greater patient satisfaction and clinical efficiency.
