August 2018

In a culture of justice and accountability, an organization’s human resource decisions are based on the systematic analysis of events and consistent application of a just culture algorithm. This month’s presentation will provide an introduction and overview of the just culture algorithm “Duty to Avoid Causing Unjustifiable Risk or Harm.” Using a case scenario, we will review the duty and apply its components to assist in recommending a fair and defensible personnel action following an adverse event.

Objectives:

  • Review the behavioral choices and their impact on Just Culture
  • Review the concepts of drift and human error on system redesign concepts
  • Describe the components of a threshold event investigation and a casual diagram
  • Understand and apply each of the elements of the duty to follow a procedural rule
