Course Description:
This Slips, Trips, and Falls and Sharps Safety Workshop combines two of our most popular training courses into a single, extremely informative session. Participants will not only receive practical tools for preventing employee, patient, and visitor falls, but will also be equipped with information to help them establish, update, and improve their needlestick and sharp incident prevention programs.
Who Should Attend:
- Clinical and non-clinical frontline staff who have been identified as or are seeking to become Peer Supporters (Nurses, CNAs, EVS, Security, Front Desk Staff, Physicians, Techs, Phlebotomists, etc.)
- While the main goal of this training is to equip frontline, tier 2 peer supporters, Risk Managers, Patient Safety Officers, or leaders helping to build and run the program may benefit from attending for contextual understanding.
Course Objectives:
The Slips, Trips, and Falls portion of the Workshop will cover the following learning objectives:
- Understanding the burden and causal factors related to falls
- Increase competency in risk reduction associated with slips, trips, and falls (STF)
- Improve the internal and external communication of STF findings
- Acquire knowledge of evidence-based practice to implement a slip, trip and fall program in the healthcare setting.
The Sharps Safety portion of the Workshop will cover the following learning objectives:
- Discuss the ongoing risk — why sharp and needlestick injuries remain a significant concern.
- Recognize the impact on both individuals and the organization.
- Identify essential elements of an evidence-based prevention plan and regulatory requirements.
- List several ways to evaluate a program and strategies to reduce the risk.
- Demonstrate practical tools — interactive use of tools for sharps and needlestick safety.

Cognitive interviewing (CI) is a scientifically validated protocol for enhancing the accuracy and detail of information gathered during investigative interviews. It leverages principles from cognitive psychology to facilitate better recall by interview subjects, reducing the risk of inaccurate or incomplete information. BETA is pleased to offer this virtual, simulation-based workshop to help participants improve their investigative interviewing skills.
